Work After Graduation

 

Students who have completed their study program in Canada have options to either continue their studies and pursue advances degrees, return to their home countries or get additional work experience in Canada. 

 

If the student chooses to work after Graduation in Canada, there are many options available for international students 

 

Work in Canada after Graduation

 

Working after graduation in canada can tremendously help the students become Permanent Residents. There are many federal and Provincial programs that support Permanent Residence options for students who choose to stay and work in Canada after completing their studies. The more work experience the student has in Canada , the higher are the chances to obtain Permanent Residence.

Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

 

The post-graduation work permit gives international students an opportunity to work in Canada after graduation by providing the work permit for a time period upto three years. 

 

Students get an open work permit and are exempt from LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment). 

 

In order to qualify for a PGWP , the student must have attended a recognized institution.

 

Requirements:

  • – Studied as a full-time student in Canada for at least 8 months duration.
  • – Have a valid Canada study visa or study permit.
  • – If a student received the letter of eligibility for a degree, diploma, or certificate.
  • – A student should apply for a work permit within 90 days after receiving a confirmation letter of completing the course. 

Canadian Experience Class

 

This is a federal program that allows you as an international student who has recently graduated from a Canadian institution to get a Canadian permanent residence without leaving.

 

Requirements:

 

  • – A student who graduated from a post-secondary institution should have at least 1-year full-time skilled work experience in Canada.(this could be  part time but must be equivalent to 1 year = 1560 hours ) 
  • – A student should have 12 months of continuous work experience in Canada under a study visa or work visa.
  • – One should submit their application while working in Canada or within a year after leaving Canada.
  • – A student should have proficiency in a recognized language assessment test which should be valid.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

 

This is a program that allows international students who have graduated from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution to be eligible for a nomination by a Canadian Province in order to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

 

Requirements:

 

  • – Students must show the Intention for residing in the nominating province or territory.
  • – A student should pass the medical exam.
  • – A student should also not have a security and criminal background check.
  • – A student should apply directly to the province or territory and upon successful acceptance must apply separately to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada
