Work while studying in Canada

 

International students can have valuable experience and earn enough money to check their expenditures by doing part-time jobs.

 

While coming to Canada as an international student you must show sufficient evidence that you can pay your living expenses and tuition fees. But there are a number of work permit programs for international students to work in Canada.

 

Working in Canada while studying will help you to establish business contacts for the future and can also help you to permanent residence after graduation.

 

While the students attend school in Canada, they can gain valuable work experiences by a way of Co-op or Internship programs. In order to enhance the academic curriculum and provide hands-on experience to their students, many colleges and universities in Canada offer internship programs. A work permit is needed for International students to opt-in for their Co-op or internship. 

 

In order for an international student to do an internship or co-op program, they need to 

  • – Have Internship or Co-op as an integral part of their program of study
  • – Internship or Co-op must not be more than 50% of the total study program
  • – It must be part of the academic program requirement
  • – Students must have a valid study permit.

 

You can have work in Canada by the following ways:

 

On-Campus Jobs

As an international student, one can work on campus without a work permit while completing your studies if you fulfill the following requirements:

 

  • – A student should have a valid study permit.
  • – A student is a full-time student at a post-secondary school, or at a private college-level school in Quebec that follows the same rules as public schools. Or at a Canadian private school that can legally award a degree under the laws of the province.
  • – A student should have a social insurance number.

 

Off-Campus Jobs

As an international student, one can work Off-Campus also without a work permit while completing your studies if you fulfill the following requirements:

 

  • – A student should have a valid study permit.
  • – A student should be a full-time student at a government-designated institution.
  • – A student can work only for a maximum of 20 hours per week during the regular academic sessions. It can be full-time during the holidays and breaks. 
  • – A student can have an off-campus job when it would be more than at least six months of study in Canada.

 

Travel and work in Canada

 

A student will be able to work and travel in Canada for up to one year through the International Experience Canada. If you fulfill the following requirements

:

  • – The age of a Student should be between 18 to 35.
  • – The country of a student should have an agreement with Canada.
